98.38 lakh employees benefited through Pradhan Mantri Rojgar Protsahan Yojana

Launched on 9th August 2016, with an aim to incentivise employers for employment generation, Pradhan Mantri Rojgar Protsahan Yojana (PMRPY) has benefitted as many as 98.38 lakh employees. Under the PMRPY, the Government of India pays Employer’s full contribution i.e. 12% towards EPF and EPS both (as admissible from time to time) w.e.f. 01.04.2018 for a period of three years to the new employees and to the existing beneficiaries for their remaining period of three years through EPFO.

The scheme which targets employees earning Rs 15,000 per month, provides a dual benefit. On one hand, the employer is incentivised for creating new employment and on the other hand, workers get access to social security benefits of the organised sector. As on 31st December 2018, 98.38 lakh employees and 1.21 lakh establishments have been benefited.

According to the information given by Union Minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha today, Maharashtra tops the list of employees getting the benefit at 17,46,468, with total subsidised amount standing at Rs 5,47,06,12,241. It is followed by Tamil Nadu with 11,77,433 employees getting the total subsidised benefit of Rs 3,81,60,56,107. Maharashtra also tops the list of establishments getting the benefit at 14,193 followed by Tamil Nadu at 13,527.
